  • The hospital was named in memory to Carrie Alice and George Woods, Sr., at the request of their son, George Woods, Jr., a former Tennessee Speaker of the House from Etowah who was instrumental in establishing the hospital.
     
  • Originally opened with 32 beds, Woods Memorial quickly grew to include a 44-bed nursing home (McMinn Memorial Nursing Home) and in 1972 more than doubled the hospital’s size to its current 72 beds. In 1992, the hospital again went through a
  • major expansion with the construction of a new surgery center, renovation of the entire hospital, and additional 44 beds for the nursing home. In 1998, a new emergency department and eight-bed intensive care unit were built.
     
  • With approximately 300 full time employees, Woods Memorial has a medical staff of more than 75 physicians representing numerous specialties.
     
  • In addition to the hospital, Woods Memorial operates a nursing home, regional dialysis center, emergency department, wound care center, inpatient geriatric psychiatric unit, and other services under a single organization.
     
  • The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
